Blank cards and thank you cards are the unsung heroes of a versatile greeting card collection. Here's why they deserve a spot in your stash, plus a look at two unique Engeldark options.
Quick answer
Blank cards and thank you cards are the backbone of a practical greeting card collection. They let you respond to any situation without scrambling for a last-minute store run, and they give you room to write a personal message that fits the moment.
The myth: blank cards are boring and thank you cards are only for gifts
Many people think blank cards are too generic and that thank you cards only get used after birthdays or holidays. In reality, blank cards are the most flexible tool in your stash. You can use them for a quick note of encouragement, a congratulations, a thinking-of-you message, or even a lighthearted jab with the right design. Thank you cards, meanwhile, work for everything from a job interview follow-up to a neighbor who helped with your mail. They show thoughtfulness in any context.
The key is choosing cards that reflect your personality while still being appropriate for multiple occasions. Mary Engelbreit's Engeldark line offers a playful twist on traditional blank cards, proving that blank doesn't have to mean bland.
What to look for in a blank or thank you card
A great blank card has a design that's versatile enough for several situations but still says something about you. Look for quality paper stock that feels substantial in hand, a size that fits standard envelopes, and a message (or lack of one) that leaves room for your own words. For thank you cards, the same rules apply, though a subtle thank-you sentiment on the front can help the recipient know the card's purpose at a glance.
The Engeldark cards from Mary Engelbreit are printed on premium, thick cardstock and measure 5" x 7", so they feel substantial. They come with envelopes and are printed in the USA. The blank interiors give you complete freedom to write whatever the occasion calls for.
Verdicts: blank cards and thank you cards in your stash
- Blank cards: Essential for flexibility. They let you write your own message for any occasion, from congratulations to condolences. Keep at least 3-5 blank cards in your stash at all times.
- Thank you cards: A specific but widely useful category. They show gratitude in any context and are always appreciated. Stock up on thank you cards after holidays or before big life events like weddings and graduations.
- Engeldark line: Mary Engelbreit's Engeldark cards offer a playful, slightly edgy alternative to traditional blank cards. They're printed on quality cardstock and come with envelopes. Consider adding a set like the Battle of Wits Engeldark Card Bundle to cover multiple occasions with one purchase.
